About Under The Sun
Joyce Stratton opened her first Under the Sun store at The Woods Hole Inn in 1967. It was a gift shop of consigned arts & crafts created by Cape Cod artisans. In 1975 the shop reopened in the attic space of the refurbished 1890 Congregational Church in Woods Hole. Over the next 20 years, with extensive remodeling, the shop expanded to include the work of many local artists and craftspeople.
In 1995 Under the Sun relocated to the first floor of the building, allowing the shop to grow into the elegant and exciting gallery and gift shop it is today.
Joyce is a former elementary schoolteacher and self-taught artist, working in several arts & crafts medias. From her workshop in the attic that was the former gift shop, she works in leather, stained glass, jewelry, watercolors and a variety of other inventive craft pieces.
